FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SLO 2009 1st Winter Funk Festival

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE: the 1st Annual SLO Winter Funk Festival happens March 13th behind TJ’s off Cross Street by Matt Clark Tile and J. Carroll Design

WHEN: March 13, 2009 from 5PM to 10PM

WHERE: Industrial design parking lot off Cross St. at Matt Clark Tile, J. Carroll behind Trader Joe's in SLO

WHAT: The 1st Annual SLO Late-Winter Funk Festival features some of SLO's top new and established local bands. Featuring Callista, an alt-rock indie band from Santa Maria, Magma Funk (formerly Human No Longer), Mind's Eye, and headliner funk-rock-reggae band BODY, this year's 1st Annual Late-Winter Funk Festival is going to be a jamming and festive occasion. DJ Malik from Boo Boo Records will be mixing up the music between the bands and DJ Swift from The BeatFreakz may also join in on scratch.

Scott Andrews, the Funk Festival’s promoter, says “This is a new festival to start building awareness of the creative music bands on the Central Coast, along with honoring the businesses who are helping promote and produce the upcoming SLO JAZZ FESTIVAL (www.slojazzfest.org).” The festival is still seeking additional sponsorship and volunteers to help with event coordination.  During the event there will be a sidewalk sale for the local businesses, including Matt Clark Tile & Stone, J Carroll  and attendees will receive a festival t-shirt with every $20 love donation. Bands may include free CD’s and merchandise, as well, plus there will be additional merchandise for sale during the event.

The festival is a BYOB event, with a love donation of $20 suggested for the bands to help cover the expense of a sound stage, the band costs, lighting, and production, and to raise awareness for the SLO Jazz Festival, which is scheduled to launch in September 2009. The $20 love donation will include a groovy festival t-shirt. According to Mr. Andrews, who came up with the idea for the SLO Jazz Festival while attending the San Jose Jazz Festival back in 2006, “This event is intended to plant a seed we hope will grow into an internationally successful jazz and live art music festival based here in San Luis Obispo, deepening SLO’s reputation as being a leading hub of creative activity and musical innovations in performance art.”
