Stages

Our current goal is to have the following stages, located throughout the Downtown SLO scene, all within walking distance. This is currently in vision mode and as we gain permits and acceptance we will announce the stages and solidify the schedule:

STRAIGHT AHEAD STAGE

Location: Nipomo Street

Featuring some of SLO's finest straight ahead jazz ensembles, this stage will range from trios to fuller sized jazz groups, featuring be-bop, straight-ahead, cool jazz, and other standard jazz formats.

SALSA STAGE

Location: Mission Plaza

Put on your dancing shoes and join in on the fun at the Salsa Stage. Salsa music is huge in California, and the diverse, ethnicity combines with hot and sexy music to sizzle the streets and heat up the dance floor! Featuring top touring salsa bands from Northern and Southern California, this stage is sure to be a delight for dancers and music lovers alike.

SWING STAGE

Location: Osos Street

Swingin' cats and cool hep-kat kitties will be swirling and twirling at the fun at the SWING Stage. Featuring top local and touring swing bands (you'd be surprised at the talent right here in SLO), this stage will be a delight for old-timers as well as the modern swing dancers.

BEYOND JAZZ AND ART STAGE

Location: Garden Street

Looking for cutting edge jazz? Something beyond the norm? You'll find it at the beyond jazz stage. We're featuring fused acts that combine duality (dj/mc combined with standard jazz), ethnic (world) beats, funk-jazz, and other leading futuristic jazz sounds. Definitely a hit with the musicians and people looking to explore future directions of music AND dig the local impressionistic free art in SLO. This stage will also be the featured LATE-NIGHT stage, with music running into the evening and even combining music jams with art-jams. It is sure to be a highlight for people seeking interactive and free experiences.

WORLD BEAT STAGE

Location: Broad Street

There's an amazing free-dance scene and world-beat percussion scene thriving in SLO, partly due to The Drum Circuit and partly due to the many passionate local musicians who care deeply about AFRO-REGGAE and other beats. This stage will attract the people who love rastafari music, conga, djimbe, bongo, and other fun music. In addition, drumming classes will be held at this stage at various times between other stage breaks as a fun instructional place where music and people can come together as one.

RESTAURANT/NIGHT CLUB STAGES

Location: Novo? Blue? Mothers? Frog? Linneas? Fandango? Grappolo? Downtown Brew? Firestone? Help us make this a success!

We're looking for additional stages at local restaurants and wineries who want to work with local clubs and restaurants who want to feature live music throughout the festival and gain additional patronage and exposure as a result of sponsoring the Jazz Festival. Get involved and help show your support. It's good for business, good for SLO, and good for expanding your marketing reach outside of SLO, too.

EDUCATOR STAGES

Location: TBD (hopefully places like The Little Theatre)

Our objective here is to have break-out sessions by world-leading and inspiring musicians, to do talks and education sessions to share what they know with our community and jazz festival attendees. This is an opportunity for the youth and other stages to get more involved in jazz, latin, and world music and become a part of the growing music center thriving in San Luis Obispo.

More information is coming as to how the stages will come together.
